The title “narrow place” refers to a translation of the name given to Egypt in the Passover story — metaphorically meant to rerperesent anywhere you feel trapped, enslaved, stuck. I was reminded as I painted of the tightness of a low underpass, the stifling stress of traffic or the anxiety of a busy city street — and also of the beauty of light that made me pause to roll down my car window to take a photograph.

There is beauty, everywhere, all along the journey, even when it may feel narrow.
