Original painting inspired by music by Charli XCX. I didn’t intend to make this painting about the album, but I couldn’t stop listening and soon the music became enmeshed with the composition. Every time I worked on this painting, I listened to Charli’s Brat Album — bringing the music to life through each mark. This is how I heard the story through my brush. The music came out in dull phalo green echoes, in wisps of nostalgia, pangs of imposter syndrome, and the belief that everything is romantic, even a highway overpass.
The title is a reference to a lyric from Apple:
I think the apple's rotten right to the core
From all the things passed down
From all the apples coming before
I split the apple down symmetrical lines
And what I find is kinda scary
Makes me just wanna drive
The image itself is taken from a drive along I-95, north of Boston.
